A planned North Texas 400+ acre community centered around a mosque, a K-12 Islamic school, and 1,000 homesites formerly known as “EPIC City” has been renamed “The Meadow” amidst concerns it will enforce “Sharia Law” and become what Texas Governor Greg Abbott fears could be a “no-go zone” for Texans who follow other religions (something the East Plano Islamic Center EPIC) vigorously denies.

Collin County Judge Chris Hill released a new map of the planned development with its new name in a Facebook post.
When asked about the renaming by the Dallas Morning News, its developer replied that “In light of some public confusion over whether the development would become a separate municipality, Community Capital Partners chose to change the name of the development from EPIC City to The Meadow to better describe the beautiful property and the inclusive, family-centered, mixed-use, master-planned community being designed.”

Community Capital Partners, formed by members of the East Plano Islamic Center (EPIC), one of North Texas’s largest mosques, has faced scrutiny from both the Governor of Texas and Attorney General Ken Paxton, who has accused the project developers of violating federal and state securities laws.
In May 11, 2025, Texas Governor Greg Abbott claimed on x.com that “Texas has halted any construction of EPIC City. There is no construction taking place.”

However, Dan Cogdell, attorney for EPIC City’s developer, Community Capital Partners denied that:
“Construction was never underway as the project is still in the planning phases, so there was nothing to halt. The EPIC team is cooperating fully with any and all investigations- regardless of how misguided and unnecessary they are.” -Dan Cogdell, EPIC City developer’s attorney
The project appears to be moving forward, albeit under a new name.
