Within the past few days, the US State Department has issued urgent travel advisories to US residents about a Mexican destination that is popular with US tourists: Los Cabos / Cabo San Lucas/La Paz in Baja California Sur, Mexico.
"Reports include a shootout that spread through several neighborhoods in Cabo San Lucas in the early hours of April 25, three buses set on fire in La Paz and Los Cabos on April 24, the killing of a law enforcement officer and three other homicides on April 22, and the posting of threats against officials by cartels. Expect to see increased security presence, public transportation restrictions, and other actions to manage the situation." -US State Department Travel Advisory

In addition to the torched buses, Mexican cartels also hung "narco-banners" threatening their perceived opponents from highway signs & overpasses.

That was enough for at least one US Cruise Ship (Royal Caribbean's "Serenade of the Seas") to cancel a scheduled port visit on Saturday, April 27, 2025, according to a Reddit user said to be aboard that ship.

Despite the reports of Cartel violence, the US State Department increased its warning level for Las Cabos/La Paz (Baja California Sur) only slightly to "Level 2 - Exercise Increased Caution" due to "crime and criminal activity and violence may occur throughout the state."

Would you travel to Los Cabos/La Paz (Baja California) in light of these US travel advisories?

No way….. I believe the WARNINGS!
I have been to Cabo, it used to be AMAZING & BEAUTIFUL, NOT ANYMORE, SADLY!!😢😢😢
I also read today that the Border Patrol was in Puerto Penasco, MX. They took out many outlook areas put there by the cartels. Was that location also in your purview? I visited there multiple times while living in AZ 25 years ago. A most beautiful place where the ocean was turquoise and the white sand was up to your shins. Lovely and sad.
