Trump Turns to Supreme Court After Court Blocks ICE Stops in California
Also: ICE Arrests "Trump Burger" Owner
THE WEEK’S US BORDER NEWS IN BRIEF:
The Trump Administration is asking the US Supreme Court to block a Los Angeles Federal Court ruling preventing US Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) Agents from stopping and questioning people based on their “apparent race or ethnicity,” speaking in Spanish or accented English, presence at a location where undocumented immigrants “are known to gather,” and working at specific jobs, such as landscaping or construction.
Nine States Assign National Guard to Work with ICE; Colorado opts out
The Governors of Idaho, Iowa, Nevada, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and Wyoming have agreed to assign National Guard Troops to assist ICE Agents (Texas and Florida National Guard Troops are already assigned to immigration duties). At the same time, Colorado’s Democratic Governor has said “No.”
“Colorado’s National Guard members play an important role in protecting our state during natural disasters and emergencies at home and abroad, and the Governor has been clear that he would not support federal overreach to activate the National Guard outside of regular order,” - Spokesperson for Colorado Governor Jared Polis
Mexico is launching a new border security unit in Sonora made up of 18 state police officers who have completed special training by U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The unit, assigned to the Mexico-Arizona border, is hailed as a positive Border Security development by the US Ambassador to Mexico:

The Lebanese owner of a Houston-area chain of “Trump Burger” Trump-themed restaurants is facing deportation after his arrest by ICE, which says he overstayed his visa and gave the following statement to KHOU-TV:
"Under the current administration, ICE is committed to restore integrity to our nation’s immigration system by holding all individuals accountable who illegally enter the country or overstay the terms of their admission. This is true regardless of what restaurant you own or political beliefs you might have."

Damn the Lebanese cook! They make good food!
That's hilarious about the burger guy! Makes me wonder if he was sincere, or just trying to hide in plain sight. Trump Burger is a bit over the top...sounds like a make-work job for Eric Trump.
Ironically, as a libertarian I used to be very much against these ICE checkpoints and profiling. But that was before four years of open borders, judges who preferentially abet known criminal aliens, and mayors/governors who secretly spend millions or billions of their citizens' tax money on non productive illegals whom they invited in for no apparent reason. This is a war on our civilization, and you only need to look at Europe to see how bad it can get.
Also ironically, I used to be a big fan of Jared Polis, who claims to be libertarian. But that was also before he deliberately tried to conceal the Trendy Arugula gang presence in his state, and their not-so-subtle takeover of some apartment complexes. Even the American founders didn't think everyone was "created equal" nor did they think everyone should be allowed to vote. Were they right? I guess we'll find out, but liberals and libertarians are no longer arbiters of good sense.
Liberals had multiple opportunities to demonstrate how to solve difficult social problems, and they just ruined everything they touched. I don't think libertarians can admit that some situations require forceful authoritarian solutions. But they have no pragmatic alternatives to offer either.
The prevailing ethos of the moment might be expressed by "You entered the country without due process; you can be deported the same way." I hope ICE doesn't overcorrect too far, but I'm not optimistic given the number of "sanctuary" mayors and governors who refuse to help ICE get their migrant criminals. What are they supposed to do if local cops won't help them get the bad guys they're supposed to be targeting? And why has no one forced these mayors and governors to explain why they are prioritizing foreign parasites over their own citizens?
