THE WEEK’S US BORDER NEWS IN BRIEF:
The week’s news in U.S. border security and immigration is dominated by a surge in federal enforcement operations, fatal law enforcement encounters, and polling that shows a majority of voters now oppose current enforcement actions.

Key Enforcement & Incidents
Mass Arrests & Operation Metro Surge: U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) reported dozens of arrests in Minnesota and nationwide, targeting individuals with convictions for violent crimes like murder and child rape.
Fatal Minneapolis Shooting & Protests: Tensions remain high following the fatal shooting of Renee Good by an ICE agent in Minneapolis. A federal judge recently ordered agents to cease retaliation against peaceful protesters.
Portland Shooting Indictments: A Venezuelan national shot by U.S. Border Patrol during a traffic stop in Portland was indicted this week on charges of assaulting a federal officer.
Detention Deaths: Four migrants died in ICE custody during the first 10 days of January, according to government releases.
Policy Updates
“Zero Releases” Record: U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced that December 2025 marked the eighth consecutive month of zero releases for migrants encountered at the border.
Refugee Re-Vetting: Operation PARRIS was launched in Minnesota to re-examine thousands of refugee cases through intensive new background checks.
Legal & Public Response
State Lawsuits: Minnesota and Illinois have filed lawsuits against the Trump administration over the recent surge in immigration operations.
Public Opinion: A new Wall Street Journal poll suggests over half of registered voters believe the administration’s deportation and enforcement efforts have “gone too far”. And - less you consider this poll an outlier - A Quinnipiac poll shows only 40 percent of Americans approve of the way ICE is enforcing immigration laws, while 57 percent disapprove. In a CNN survey, 51 percent of Americans say they believe ICE is making cities less safe, while only 31 percent say ICE is making cities safer.

Jack the only ones that think that ICE has gone too far and are not as supported, are the Democrats and paid protestors. The rest of us (The Patriots), are cheering on the arrests of illegal criminals! Thank you for your service to us.
Public support has NOT fallen. The only people who don’t support kicking these scumbags out of the country are deluded idiots (and I have some of them in my own family unfortunately), self appointed “warriors of justice” imbeciles who would sh$t their pants at the sight of a gun pointed at them and the paid for, biased media clowns.
