The crew of the US Coast Guard Cutter “Alert” returned to Florida with more than $18 million worth of drugs seized from cartel smugglers during a 45-day patrol of the Windward Passage, Caribbean Sea, and Eastern Pacific Ocean.
The Coast Guard seized 2,250 pounds of cocaine valued at $18.4 million, seven pounds of marijuana valued at $7,000, an illegal firearm, and arrested several smugglers during the counter-narcotics mission.

The commanding officer of the Alert praised his crew upon their return to the ship’s Port Canaveral homeport:
"Time spent away from family and missed holidays represents a significant sacrifice, which makes their commitment to combating narco-terrorism and protecting our nation’s borders from illicit drugs all the more commendable, as demonstrated by the extraordinary success of this patrol.” - Commander Mario Gil

The US Coast Guard seized nearly 510,000 pounds of cocaine in the Eastern Pacific Ocean and Caribbean during the last fiscal year. That’s three times the amount of drugs seized by the agency the year before.
