THE WEEK’S US BORDER NEWS IN BRIEF:
This week in US border security and immigration news (November 29 - December 6, 2025), the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced record-low border crossings while simultaneously launching major enforcement operations in interior cities and implementing new, stricter national security screening measures for immigrants and visa applicants.
Key Developments
Enforcement Operations: U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) launched new interior enforcement initiatives.

A US Border Patrol Agent makes an arrest as part of “Operation Catahoula Crunch” in New Orleans (US Border Patrol photo). “Operation Catahoula Crunch” began in New Orleans, targeting and arresting criminal illegal aliens. More than 200 federal agents led by US Border Patrol “Commander at Large” Gregory Bovino are fanning out across New Orleans.
“Operation Metro Surge” in Minneapolis led to the arrest of individuals described as “worst of the worst” criminal illegal aliens. Somali migrants, whom President Trump has called “garbage,” are among those taken into custody.
An appeals court is deliberating on a lower court order that would release hundreds of immigration detainees in the Chicago area on bond with electronic monitoring, a move the administration is challenging.
Policy and Security Changes: U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced several new measures focused on national security and the integrity of the immigration system.
