US Dispatches Aircraft Carrier to Caribbean
U.S. Embassy issues Venezuela & Colombia Security Alerts to US Citizens
(Editor’s Note: Although the focus of US Border News was originally the Southern Border with Mexico, given the current administration’s expansion of Border Security efforts, we have expanded our coverage, when appropriate, to the Southern American Hemisphere.)
A day after President Trump told reporters at the White House, “the land is going to be next” in his military campaign against “narcoterrorists” that has so far been waged against small boats in international waters off Venezuela and Colombia, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered the USS Gerald R. Ford and its strike group to move from the Mediterranean to the Caribbean.
Pentagon Spokesperson Sean Parnell said, in a statement issued via x.com, that the carrier strike group will “bolster U.S. capacity to detect, monitor, and disrupt illicit actors and activities that compromise the safety and prosperity of the United States.”
Ahead of this announcement, the US Embassy in Bogotá, Colombia, issued a “Security Alert” to US Citizens on Thursday, October 23, 2025, advising them not to travel to Venezuela and to avoid the Colombia-Venezuela border.
Specifically, the US Embassy recommended the following actions to US citizens:
Do not travel to Venezuela.
U.S. citizens in Venezuela should depart immediately.
Avoid the Colombia-Venezuela border.
Do not attempt to enter Venezuela without a visa.
Venezuela has been under a US State Department “Level 4-Do Not Travel” advisory for US Citizens since January 29, 2019.
As tensions between the US and Venezuela have risen, the State Department has sharpened its warnings about travel to Venezuela, by re-issuing that advisory (as recently as May 12, 2025) “to emphasize the extreme danger to U.S. citizens living in or traveling to Venezuela.”
The current State Department Travel Advisory Level issued for Venezuela is its highest level of warning. Colombia has been under a “Level 3 - Reconsider Travel” advisory since October 30, 2020 (except for the current Colombia-Venezuela border region advisory, where all travel is discouraged).
As the USS Gerald R. Ford carrier group steams toward the Caribbean, the Trump Administration continues to attack small boats it says are carrying drugs destined for the United States. As I write this, Secretary of Defense Hegseth has acknowledged attacking 10 boats and killing at least 43 people aboard them since September.

Jack , I say, thank God for blessing us with President Donald Trump. Every other administration mostly ignored the fact of drug traffickers. Finally, this administration is fighting for us USA citizens and saving thousands of lives. 43 drug traffickers dead. A drop in the bucket of potential dead USA citizens.
