Federal Authorities are battling Chinese Counterfeiters trying to flood our Borders with fakes, which they say pose a danger to US National Security and US citizens' safety and pocketbooks.
Recent shipments intercepted by US Customs & Border Protection (CBP) Officers include counterfeit US currency printed in China, bound for addresses in more than half a dozen US States.
On April 10, 2025, CBP Officers in Chicago intercepted 10 shipments of "funny money" from China heading to addresses in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, Minnesota, South Dakota & Wisconsin. The seized counterfeit cash, printed in denominations of $20s, $50s, and $100s, totaled more than $153,000.
More worrisome than counterfeit cash from China is a shipment intercepted by CBP Officers at DFW International Airport recently:
The CBP agents discovered Chinese knock-offs of their own badges and Chinese copies of California Highway Patrol badges. The discovery of these fake badges is not a "one-off."
In 2021, CBP Officers in Chicago seized 26 Chinese copies of US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) badges along with a fake FBI Agent's badge bound for addresses in Washington, Iowa, Kentucky, Florida, California, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Virginia, Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, and Texas.
Other concerning Chinese counterfeit seizures include more than 2,800 frighteningly realistic "replica" weapons seized since 2022 at US Ports of Entry, which are illegal to possess for good reason:
“Replica firearms—even though not always functional—can be easily mistaken for genuine weapons by the public and law enforcement. ( This) can lead to tragic outcomes.” - Cheryl M. Davies, US Customs & Border Protection
Even more concerning: US CBP Officers seized 71 shipments of Chinese counterfeit Human Growth Hormones being smuggled into the country last month.
CBP Agents have seen a significant increase in seizures of fake Human Growth Hormones in fiscal year 2025: with 151 seizures from October to December (2024) alone, compared to a total of 132 seizures in all fiscal year 2024 (October 2023-September 2024).
Should more be done to keep dangerous Chinese "knock-offs" from entering the US?
