Federal Agents along the Southern Border are successfully targeting the southbound "Iron River" from the US to Mexico that has been arming the cartels for decades. The most recent gunrunning arrests occurred this month in South Texas on Saturday, March 15, 2025.

On Saturday, March 15, 2025, US Customs & Border Protection (CBP) Officers on the Camino Real International Bridge in Eagle Pass discovered five weapons, four magazines, and 987 rounds of ammunition a southbound driver was attempting to smuggle from Texas into Mexico.
A week earlier, on March 12, 2025, US Border Patrol (USBP) Agents at the Calexico, California (West) Port of Entry interrupted two more gun runners' attempts to smuggle five .50 caliber rifles to another Mexican Cartel.

Finally, during the second week of March 2025, Border Patrol Agents in the El Centro, California (which calls itself the "Premier Sector") intercepted a rolling arsenal on Interstate 10: 4 AK-style rifles, eight handguns, four high-capacity mags, 12 pistol mags, & 50 rounds of ammunition:
