U.S. Border: Cartel Drugs, Cash, Weapons & Ammo Seized - Kids Still Crossing
November is proving to be a busy month for border law enforcement.
There are some notable seizures of cartel drugs and ammo to report from the U.S. - Mexico border - as large migrant groups containing unaccompanied minors continue to cross the Rio Grande.
On Wednesday, November 6, 2024, Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Officers encountered a group of 116 illegal immigrants in Eagle Pass. Among the group were 11 unaccompanied children - including siblings from Honduras, ages 4 & 7, with a piece of paper to an address in Alabama. The group & children were taken into custody by U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) Agents.
Two days earlier in Eagle Pass, U.S. Customs & Border Protection (CBP) Officers on the Camino Real International Bridge discovered 12 packages of cocaine weighing in at 29.93 pounds within a car crossing into Texas from Mexico. The street value of the drugs was $399,740.
A day after that, CBP Officers on El Paso's Bridge of the America's discovered some suspicious bundles hidden in the quarter panels of a pick-up truck crossing the border there. When they took a closer look they found the bundles contained 11,100 rounds of 7.62 ammunition. This nearly equals all of the ammo seized on this bridge in all of last year.
It was the second large ammunition seizure at this bridge in recent months. CBP officers seized more than 93,000 rounds of ammunition on August 17, 2024. It's assumed the ammo was being smuggled to arm one of the cartels in Mexico.
Meanwhile, in Arizona, CBP Officers at the San Luis I Port of Entry discovered five AK-47 rifles, two 50-caliber rifles, and several magazines loaded with ammo for all of the weapons hidden inside a SUV being driven into Mexico on November 1, 2024.
The cartels are also out $94,000 in cash (likely proceeds from smuggling operations) as it was being smuggled into Mexico which and was seized by Border Patrol Agents on Thursday, November 7, 2024 from the Newton-Azrak, California Border Patrol Station.
While - back in Texas - a DPS Special Operations Group broke up a smuggling operation in Cameron County. The DPS Agents seized four bales of marijuana weighing 119 pounds and arrested the suspected smuggler on Wednesday, November 6, 2024. The drugs are worth well over $100,000.
