Immigration Officers in Texas have been ambushed in three different cities during the past five days in apparently unrelated incidents. The most serious of those incidents occurred on Friday, July 4, 2025, at the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Prairieland Detention Facility in Alvarado, Texas.
The Johnson County Sheriff's Office says Alvarado Police Officers responding to a "suspicious person" call shortly after 11 pm, "observed a suspicious person that appeared to be carrying a firearm. As the first responding officer attempted to engage the person, multiple suspects opened fire on the Officer. The officer was struck in the neck by at least one bullet."
That officer was flown to a Fort Worth hospital, has since been released, and is expected to make a full recovery.
The Sheriff's Office says the gunmen tried to flee the scene but were arrested by other officers from the Alvarado Police Department, the Johnson County Sheriff's Office, and other agencies who responded to the scene.

“It was a planned ambush with the attempt to kill ICE correction officers,” said Nancy Larson, the acting U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Texas.
The US Attorney’s office says that ten suspects have each been charged with three counts of attempted murder of a federal officer, along with three counts of discharging a firearm in relation to a crime of violence. An 11th suspect has been charged with obstruction of justice and conspiracy for attempting to conceal and destroy evidence.
The US Attorney says, “the defendants, dressed in black military-style clothing, began shooting fireworks at the facility, as part of an organized attack.

A statement released by the US Attorney says that “After approximately 10 minutes of convening, one or two individuals broke off from the main group and began to spray graffiti on vehicles and a guard structure in the parking lot at the facility. An Alvarado police officer responded to the scene after correctional officers called 911 to report suspicious activity. When the Alvarado police officer arrived, one alleged defendant positioned in nearby woods shot the officer in the neck area. Another alleged assailant across the street fired 20 to 30 rounds at unarmed correctional officers who had stepped outside the facility.”
According to the news release, “AR-style rifles were found at the scene. The assailants fled from the detention center but were stopped by additional law enforcement officers. Some defendants were wearing body armor, some were armed, and some had two-way radios. A total of twelve sets of body armor were found during searches of vehicles associated with the defendants, on their persons, and in the area around the Prairieland Detention Center.”

Assistant US Attorney General Todd Blanche said, "The Department (of Justice) has zero tolerance for assaults on federal officers or property and will bring the full weight of the law against those responsible."

That incident follows another ambush of Immigration Officers two days earlier in Dallas. In that case, the Border Patrol says its agents were ambushed and assaulted by numerous relatives of a known "MS-13 gang member on the run" as they attempted to arrest him as he arrived home.
The Border Patrol Agents obtained backup from FBI agents and ICE Officers, who assisted them in arresting the MS-13 gang member, along with four of his family members who assaulted them, all of whom were in the country illegally. The family members face charges of assaulting federal officers in addition to eventual deportation.

The third ambush occurred Monday Morning, July 7, 2025, where, according to the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS), "an individual opened fire at the entrance of the United States Border Patrol sector annex in McAllen, Texas. Both Border Patrol agents and local police helped neutralize the shooter. Two officers and a Border Patrol employee were injured, including one shot in the knee. All three have gone to the hospital. This is an ongoing investigation led by the FBI."
The City of McAllen halted all operations at its airport, located near the ambush scene, and prohibited public access to the facility on Monday morning during the incident. Commercial flights resumed approximately three hours later.

Mayra Flores, who represented McAllen in the US Congress from 2022-2023, posted a photo on x.com of the suspect's car at the shooting scene with the words "Cordis Die" spray-painted on one of its doors. "Cordis Die" is the name of a fictitious Nicaraguan terrorist organization featured in the video games Call of Duty: Black Ops II and Call of Duty: Strike Team, waging war against the US government.
Flores says McAllen Police Chief Victor Rodriguez identified the gunman, who she says was shot dead at the scene of the ambush wearing a vest and armed with a rifle, as 27-year-old Ryan Louis Mosqueda.

The Texas Tribune reports that "additional assault weapons and ammunition" were found in Mosqueda's car and that Mosqueda, although from Michigan, had ties to a local address in Weslaco, about 18 miles east of McAllen.
"Mosqueda’s father was stopped by Weslaco police around 2:30 a.m. for a traffic violation. The father told police that he was looking for his son, who he said had psychological issues and was carrying weapons in his car," according to the Associated Press.

Ya know, it sure seems like the people yelling about Trump fid'na impose martial law are doing their best to encourage the sort of activity that will lead to erosion of civil rights for everyone. I sure hope these people are treated like the threat to democracy that they are. Plus, what kind of lunatic moves to a foreign country and thinks they can attack cops when they don't even belong in the country? Wait, I think I already answered my own question...

All the suspects were local to Texas, to our heartbreak.
