Thanks for another great article.

I'm of the mind that the General has more than earned his very own namesake. Rather than inheriting (or reinheriting) some secondhand afterthought of honor, celebrate the General in his own right.

To be fair - I don't think Hegseth specifically pointed out Fort Cavazos as "woke crap," and I have mixed emotions. Like you and so many others, I'm in awe of Cavazos legendary service.

I've never been in favor of any of the renamings. I included them with the desecrations and removal of statues of other historical landmarks because of our changing ideas of the past. History is history - we don't have to like all - or any - of who characters of the past were or what they did. History happened, so let it lie. Learn what we can from it, then move on and make our own.

Thanks for sharing Cavazos' rich history - he's been overlooked by so many Americans...unknown by so many that he and his family served and sacrificed for.

Thank you for sharing this rich history of our once United States. I find all these renamings confusing, unnecessary and quite frankly, purely politically motivated.

Thank you for your thoughtful comment & for reading US Border News!

I don't dispute that the renamings (even though Cavazos was worthy of that) were political; however, there's no escaping that originally naming US Military installations across the South was also "political."

In the case of Fort Hood, I think Confederate General John Bell Hood - based on his military & historic record - was about as unworthy a character one could choose to name a US Army base for & I share no tears for it being renamed for someone far more deserving and who was a native Texan.

But again, I respect and thank you for your opinion!

Please continue to read US Border News and share your thoughts.

I value them and look forward to hearing more from you in the future.

Abrazos,

Keep it Cavazos. The battle actions of Cavazos are much more deserving the honor of a base naming. The men he rescued would feel the same way. Love, hugs, and PERSEVERE always!

The new naming was in honor of a well deserved Texas Hero. I still have the old habit of Ft Hood automatically being used, you see this is where my twin grand daughters were born premature, during an ice storm. They were so well cared for 5 weeks. Much more to the story as 1st Cav were enormous help In several ways. Also have been at the base for several returns from year long deployments, thank God they were happy returns each time. Also my “boys” son in law’s company )when they went through losing battle buddies during the shooting.

I as a vet on this one would say keep the new name, but Ft Hood will still come out if I do not just call it “on base”.
