Considering that the US Border Patrol & Texas Dept. of Public Safety also share this space with the cartels & illegal aliens they are attempting to police, this could, unfortunately, get some US law enforcement officers killed.

I'm not totally averse to crazy people who are breaking the law drowning themselves "pour encourager less autres". But I'm glad that DHS considers them safe enough to install.

The 1,000 feet of floating barriers Texas has installed in the Rio Grande off Eagle Pass have been in place for the most part without incident. Hopefully, the same holds true after DHS installs many miles of these barriers downriver.

Hi Jack, What I support with my tax dollars is sensible immigration laws that would help everyone be safe. We have a dysfunctional Congress that keeps on passing the problem along year after year, each party blaming the other like children. How horrible must it be in Haiti and some South American countries (and under many other authoritarian regimes) that people risk their lives and those of their children to come here? We cannot extend citizenship and freedom anymore because we are the divided states of America. My heart goes out to people trying to seek a better life and die doing so.

As a native South Texan who grew up in this area and now covers it from a distance (Dallas) as an adult, I understand your conflicted emotions. When you spend time on the ground there, you realize it's a more complicated issue than some present. I continue to hope for a bipartisan solution that brings people together and solves the many longstanding problems with our Kafkaesque immigration "system", but that now seems farther away than ever.
