Illegal Aliens Arrested in Death of Texas Air Force Academy Student
Texas A.G. promises "justice" for victim

Two Venezuelans who, according to US Immigration Officials, illegally entered the country via the Southern Border with Mexico, have been arrested in a fatal hit-and-run jet ski collision with a kayaker on Grapevine Lake in North Texas.
The victim, 18-year-old Ava Moore, had been home less than a week after graduating from the US Air Force Prep Academy and accepting an appointment to join the Air Force Academy as a member of the Class of 2029, when she was killed.

"We lost an exemplary teammate this weekend – Cadet Candidate Ava Moore, whose passion for leadership and service left an impact on everyone she met. Ava's constant happiness and attitude helped her squadron get through the challenges of the Prep School, and her drive to excel was on display as she sought out leadership positions to improve herself and her team." - Lt. Gen. Tony Bauernfeind, U.S. Air Force Academy Superintendent

Moore was a standout scorer on Air Force Academy Prep's women's basketball team and a star player at Timber Creek High School in Keller, Texas, before that.
According to an arrest warrant affidavit cited in numerous media reports, witnesses told police the woman who collided with Moore's kayak made several passes along the shoreline with "wanton disregard to the safety of others and at a speed and manner that endangered others in the area before eventually colliding with one of two kayakers paddling near the shoreline."
KXAS-TV reported that the Grapevine Police affidavit stated that the other kayaker witnessed Moore's kayak being struck from behind by the jet ski and that "the woman on the (jet ski) saw Moore was injured and immediately left the area."

Grapevine Police released a photo of a woman they say was piloting the jet ski taken by a bystander when she returned to shore. Police say she left in a vehicle driven by a man who struck another vehicle as they fled the scene.
Texas Game Wardens, who have jurisdiction on Grapevine Lake, announced the arrest of a suspect, identified as Daikerlyn Alejandra Gonzalez Gonzalez, two days after the fatal collision.

Texas Attorney General Paxton says his department's Fugitive Apprehension Unit "tracked down and arrested the illegal aliens connected to the crimes, working with the Texas Parks and Wildlife, the Grapevine Police Department, the Dallas Police Department, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security."
Paxton also promised justice for Moore's family:
“Ava Moore’s senseless death was caused by an illegal alien who should have never been in our country in the first place. My heart breaks for Ava’s family and friends, and my prayers are with them as they face this tragedy. My office will continue to work with local, state, and national law enforcement partners to secure justice for Ava.”- Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton
Texas Governor Greg Abbott didn’t mince words in a social media post about the arrests:
There’s a significant problem with Governor Abbott’s post, which he should be aware of after serving for thirteen years as the Attorney General of Texas before becoming Governor:
Daikerlyn Alejandra Gonzalez faces charges of felony manslaughter, which are not punishable by the death penalty under Texas law. Prosecutors would have to upgrade the charges against her to a capital offense for this to become a “death penalty” case.
Texas Game Wardens identified the male suspect as Maikel Coello Perozo. He faces two misdemeanor charges for a collision involving damage to a vehicle and hindering apprehension.
A GoFundMe account has been established to benefit Ava Moore’s family.
Should Texas upgrade the case against Daikerlyn Gonzalez to a capital offense ?
