The week of July 26 to August 2, 2026, saw a shift of Immigration Enforcement to US airports, rule changes intended to speed up deportations, and a clash between the federal government and Texas involving the expansion of the Border Wall.
ICE Domestic Surge and New Airport Front
The Trump administration has shifted immigration enforcement efforts into the nation’s interior through the following actions:
Airport Crackdowns: Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) entered into a data-sharing pact with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). Officers deployed to at least 15 major domestic airports to target and arrest individuals flying domestically who have overstayed visas or possess expired documentation, including those with pending applications.
High Detentions & New Operations: Building off of June’s record-high 43,000 detentions, ICE launched targeted city operations, beginning with a major enforcement push in New York City intended to expand to other municipalities.
Federal Data Sharing: The Office of Refugee Resettlement has shared over 460,000 data “leads” with ICE concerning unaccompanied minors and their adult sponsors, significantly elevating local arrest and deportation risks.
Major Asylum Rule Alteration
On July 27, 2026, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) issued an immediate Interim Final Rule aimed at curbing the asylum system’s backlog.
No-Interview Referrals: Under the new rule, USCIS asylum officers are authorized to bypass the standard initial interview and refer affirmative asylum applicants directly to Department of Justice (DOJ) immigration courts.
Impact: Administration officials state this will cut down the 1 million case backlog by 30%. Conversely, immigration advocacy groups, such as the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), criticized the policy as a move designed to systematically fast-track application denials and expedite swift deportations.
Border Enforcement & Border Wall Expansion
While the Border Patrol advertised “the order is closed,” the Federal Government’s expansion of the Border Wall hit a major snag in West Texas.
Closed Border Campaign: The U.S. Border Patrol’s El Paso Sector launched aggressive public messaging and aerial drone/helicopter surveillance campaigns to reinforce that the border is closed.
Border Wall Construction Problems: The Texas General Land Office (GLO) issued “cease and desist” demands to US Customs & Border Protection (CBP) and one of its contractors after the GLO said they “illegally” cleared portions of public land in Presidio County without notifying or obtaining permission from the State of Texas.

Jack your story about illegal immigration is very telling of the last President Biden and staff allowed all illegals to flood the USA with during his Administration. The "temporary " amnesty for immigrants is long expired.
