The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Stone arrived at Port Everglades, Florida, this week with the largest amount of cocaine seized by a single cutter in one patrol in Coast Guard history. Its crew seized 49,010 pounds of drugs worth more than $362 million during 15 encounters with cartel smuggling boats in the Eastern Pacific Ocean in support of “Operation Pacific Viper.”

Unlike US Southern Command operations in the Caribbean, which have led to deaths of more than 80 people, the crew of the Stone took all of the cartel smugglers they encountered into custody before offloading their drug loads and setting their boats afire.

The Coast Guard Cutter Stone is one of four 418-foot Legend-class National Security Cutters homeported in Charleston, South Carolina.
What impact do you believe these seizures are having on cartel smuggling operations?
