Jack,

I am so glad that the Coast Guard and our Navy have intercepting those drugs. Saying that, it's very sad that there are people waiting for those drugs.

That's the paradox of the "war on drugs."

No matter how many cartel bosses or smugglers we catch or kill, as long as there is a demand for the drugs (and money to be made supplying them), there is never a shortage of willing replacements despite the risks.

Jack, one time my husband and I (we were teenagers not married) went to a friend's house. There was another couple there and the guy told my husband (boyfriend) that he was having a party. He said that he had a case of cough syrup. Not understanding my boyfriend asked why he was going to party with a case of cold syrup. He said it had codine in the cough syrup! Of course he declined for us. It was so odd to us. We were so innocent!

Cough syrup abuse is still a problem among teens. The ingredient most sought after today is no longer codeine (which generally requires a prescription in the US), but DXM, a cough suppressant found in many over-the-counter cough & cold medications.

I'm so glad that my boyfriend declined the invitation. He has always been a man of faith and integrity. That’s why I have loved him from the beginning. Jack we had friends who were pot smokers and other drugs. We never fell prey to the idea of drugs.

Thank you Jack for your great writing.
