There's some truth to this and some utter fantasy. I know who it was that initially set up the sensors, installed equipment and tracked the smugglers on Fronton Isle. Had they been left alone to do what they were doing, and doing very well, the mission would have been far more successful and far less destructive. Just an opinion of course.

The International Boundary and Water Commission (IBWC) of the United States and Mexico initially opposed Texas seizing control of Fronton Island two years ago when Biden was president. It's unknown if they will object to Texas taking over three more Rio Grande islands off Starr County now that Trump is president.

The previous Mexican President, AMLO, disbanded the Mexican Federal Police when he unveiled his much-criticized "Hugs, Not Bullets" approach to dealing with the cartels. That emboldened them, and the cartels only became more violent and more widespread.

Sheinbaum's Security Chief is quietly recruiting ex-Federales to form a new National Operations Unit, known by its Spanish initials "UNO" to oppose the cartels along with the Mexican Military, which AMLO solely relied upon.

Hopefully this new approach will prove more successful than that of Mexico's former administration.
