While most of us are taking the Christmas holiday season off, US law enforcement officers along the border with Mexico are “holding the line” to keep cartel human and drug smugglers from entering the country.
Border Patrol Agents spent the day before Christmas tracking a group of more than a dozen people from Guerrero, Mexico, who illegally crossed the Rio Grande into Terrell County, Texas. Despite wearing camouflage, they were apprehended with the assistance of a US Customs & Border Protection helicopter crew.

“Border security operations continue every day of the year, including holidays. As many families celebrate Christmas together, it’s also important to recognize the men and women of law enforcement who work around the clock to help keep the border and our communities safe.” -Terrell County Sheriff Thaddeus Cleveland
Further upriver, Border Patrol Agents in the Big Bend Sector of Texas arrested two cartel smugglers who illegally crossed the Rio Grande with more than 16 kilos of methamphetamines. During this fiscal year, drugs worth more than $10 million have been seized in this sector alone.
Meanwhile, on Christmas Day, Texas Department of Public Safety Officers were involved in the high-speed chase of a cartel human smuggler who refused to stop for them on Interstate 35 in Laredo.
The chase, unfortunately, ended with the smuggler crashing into an innocent motorist and several parked cars. The smuggler and the two illegal aliens he was transporting were arrested. Four people in the car they hit were taken to the hospital for treatment of their injuries.

Finally, in Southern California, soldiers assigned to the “Joint Task Force Southern Border” are spending their Christmas holiday erecting signage designating a 760-acre “National Defense Area” along the border with Mexico.
The designation allows Military personnel to detain and search anyone who enters the area without authorization.

Do you believe these “National Defense Areas” will deter cartel human smugglers and drug smugglers from crossing the border?
