About US Border News:
Why we are here - where we are going - and your invitation to join us on our journey
For all of you just arriving on this page I want to give you an insight into how US Border News came to be - where we are today - where we are going - and why we hope you’ll come along for what we believe will become an incredible ride.
If you’ve read my “about” page - you’ll know that I am a native South Texan who worked decades for national & regional US news organizations. Along the way, I picked up a couple of Emmy awards - and am now pursuing a second career as an independent journalist here on Substack via US Border News.
You can read more about my professional experience HERE if you want to learn more about me.
Bottom line: this ain’t my first rodeo.
For the past two years, my news articles about daily border security developments have been featured on Newsbreak.com - resulting in more than 4 million views on that mobile-first platform. I will continue to serve my loyal readers on Newsbreak - as I expand distribution (and the topics I cover - more on that below) to readers like you on Substack.
(Have a suggestion or something to say? Email: jackbeavers@usbordernews.com )
I have long wanted to expand my writing on Newsbreak to a wider view of life along the Southern Border (grounded in my experience growing up there) including observations about culture, history, and the unique daily challenges border residents face.
That brought me to the Substack platform - and led me to establish US Border News.
We launched on November 1, 2024, days before Donald Trump was elected President following his campaign that leaned heavily into Border Security and immigration issues.
In short, the US Border is going to be a hotbed for news & politics in the days ahead - and US Border News will bring you all the significant developments (along with regular takes on border culture and history).
I have also launched a weekly newsletter that is exclusive to the substack platform and I expect to add more features exclusive to my substack subscribers moving forward.
We invite you to join us on our journey and give us feedback about what you like - and don’t like - as we expand our reporting on this fascinating melting pot of cultures and challenges along the U.S. Southern Border with Mexico.
Abrazos,
Jack Beavers, US Border News
I understand that the Congress is weighing whether or not to approve $200 billion to better seal up the border. Apparently there is also an additional $150 billion in a fund raising the potential contribution to $350 billion. The southern border is 1954 miles long. Using the larger figure that is approximately $180 million for each mile. That means you could hire employees at $100,000 a year and station approximately 1800 people per mile to guard the border. If we are talking about a concern for waste, I sn’t this an example of incredible waste?
